STUDIO TRISORIO CAPRI | project wall Jan Fabre
Studio Trisorio is pleased to announce the second protagonist of the 'project wall' who has been invited to reflect on the theme of nature and animate the historic Neapolitan gallery’s venue in Capri. As of May 25, 2022, a large mosaic by the celebrated Belgian artist Jan Fabre will be featured in the new Capri space.
The work, entitled Avant Grade is part of the Tribute to Belgian Congo series, an esteemed cycle of mosaics made from iridescent jewel beetle wing cases, in which the artist explores the history of Belgium’s controversial colonial history. The composition, featuring a large elephant tusk in center and the title of the work which resonates almost like a slogan, is seemingly reminiscent of a colonial propaganda poster. As in much of Fabre's oeuvre, beauty and aesthetic sophistication are juxtaposed with a powerful critical message.
The work is in keeping with one of the three topics comprising the Capri gallery’s programme. Laura Trisorio describes the exhibition project of the new space in these terms: “Our artists were invited to reflect on three themes which we have identified based on the idea of the island and the impressions it evokes: light, nature and memory. On a large central wall, that we have name the “project wall”, will feature a series of site specific works inspired by these themes and, periodically, the name of the artist and the theme for each special project will be announced”.
The inauguration will be held Wednesday 25 May at 7.00 p.m. with the participation of the artist.
